My first official paid subscription post! I’ve explored lots of avenues of education & paid resources, and nothing has truly felt right yet. When I considered creating a newsletter through Substack, it occurred to me that I could create a space to update my clients and friends about my business in an affordable way, but I could also create a library of resources for photographers who wanted to opt in for a fee.
So if that’s you, hi! I love talking with creatives who are growing a business and balancing that heart for making things with the desire to make a living. I think that a rising tide lifts all boats, and the more I can share, the better we all become.
So welcome :)
My hope is that this space is a conversation and a place where you can feel like you get what you need from it. I want to provide real value, not just a really good sales pitch for some mediocre advice.
Side story: one time I paid for a lighting course that promised to teach me how to deal with harsh lighting, and the advice was:
“block the sun with your hand in the photo and just edit it out later”
…
that was the only tip for harsh lighting.
I was so mad that I had paid money for that advice. I guess it’s something I hadn’t thought of, but it made me feel like I was just there for the educator to make a quick sale and I hated that.
I want to create things for you and chat with you about how to build up a business and a life that you love, monthly
What you can expect from this paid subscription are monthly resources delivered in your inbox, but also accessible from the main newsletter page for as long as you have the subscription.
I want to create downloadable resources, interview industry friends, make tutorials, answer q&a’s, and ask for what you’re missing in your business that I could help provide for you.
If you want more of a personal, repeatable experience, check out my mentor sessions here.
For the first resource, I made a checklist of things to do before your busy season kicks in. There are some obvious things that you might have done, and there might be some non-obvious things that you haven’t thought of.
My favorite is to create a self-care manual for yourself that you can refer back to in the throes of busy season when you just need a little rest, but you have no space in your brain to think of anything.
My self-care manual includes
going on a 30 minute walk
buying a little snack or drink that I love
getting a Publix sub
doing a hydrating face mask
laying on my neck stretcher
reading a fiction novel
calling my sister on the phone
going on a little drive
watching a movie
keeping my phone in a different room for a whole day
Here’s the checklist to download
Here’s my Amazon list of products mentioned
If you have another second, I’d love to get a little feedback about what you want to see from this subscription. Feel free to dm me here or on Instagram with suggestions or desires. I’m so glad you’re here, and excited for what’s to come!
